491: The talented Mr.E and his customized Surly Big Dummy

This island-dweller's initials should be DIY.

Super-nice guy, father of three, Mr. E has been asking me about El Tonto Grande for a while. After careful consideration, a test ride on my bike, and discussing such an investment with the wife, he placed an order for a Dummy of his own a month ago.

He rode it home a week and a half later, and has since been back to show me his mods. The light mount and the running boards are just the beginning.

This bike's primary role is minivan. Mr. E tells me he has little need to drive now.

Dave's Xtrahopper. NOS 80's blue Specialized Rockhopper converted into a commuting and errand machine! Henry and I love taking it to town, errands, cleaning the neighborhood, or just riding for pleasure. At 6100 Ft studded tires are a must as snow is no stranger nine months of the year. Happiness!

Since I've sent my two kids chair version, I've changed the setup a little bit. The center of gravity was way too high, and they didn't like the chairs, because it restricted their movements (and they end up behaving worse)

So , I've cut a new snapdeck out of plywood, covered it with a bit of leather and some cushioning, bent some aluminium tubbing - and now they have reasonable security, they don't feel "tied down" and enjoy the trip much more! (it's also much more versatile, since I don't have to carry the two seats around, and the bike is always ready to carry them)

I also upgraded the front end, with a new fork, disc brake, and Alfine dynamo hub powering a B&M IQ Cyo R headlight and Toplight Line rearlight

This is my Gary Fisher Big Sur Xtracycle conversion.

I replaced the suspension fork with a Surly Big Dummy Fork. Just finished it yesterday. Still need to get a new saddle and some bits and bobs.

Very happy so far.

479: Aaron's Xtracycle (old and new)

The first one is my Trek/Xtracycle that will now be broken down and sold. I love that bike, but it's just too small for me.
























The others are my new Big Dummy. I'm thinking about calling it the "Truckster." Maybe somebody will get that reference. Anyway, I'm loving the bike and it fits/rides much better than the old setup. I'm just psyched it's getting warmer out again!

475: Greg's Xtracycle

This is our 3-year old on our first Xtracycle. It is converted from a Zize bicycle called the A New Leaf or ANL for short. The ANL was designed for heavier than average riders and makes a excellent steel donor bike.

I love the Shimano Nexus Internally Geared Hub and the front disc brake.

We are looking forward to a lot more use from our Xtras!
