398: Alan's New Xtracycle
Here is my old Giant Sedona (probably a year 2000 model), newly "X-ed" to my Free Radical (which had been "resting" in my storage unit for about a year). The Free Radical used to be attached to a Novara Safari (see pic at bottom), but I "De-Xed" that bike about a year ago, so my girlfriend could use the Safari for touring, etc. The pic was on a post-conversion test run to K-Mart and the supermarket. I'm glad to be back on an "X"!

Very cool snap deck, clearly loaded for some football. And CHEETOS! Be still my heart, nature's most perfect food.
Reminds me of the Miller High Life guy.

A little Xtracycle lore...
This is a comment that was recently posted by Kipchoge on #190: Sexy Xtracycle. I'm re-posting it because it is a fun little tidbit of Xtracycle lore. Enjoy. :)
"This bike is called Tigger Farhad. The costume designer was Ben Sarrazin (Yuba impressario); it was the first Xtracycle sound system bike that I know of, called the Salsa Cycle, inspired by a fruitless search for a Salsa club one night in San Fran. We said, "we have the crew, we just need the music". It inspired Fossil Fool to create the first soul cycle, and Rock the Bike was born..."

Prototype Heavy Duty Freeradical
Photos of the new HD Freeradical design. Posted today on the Riding the Spine blog:
"...The fine folks at Xtracycle have just sent us the prototype of our dreams. It seems that inspired partially by our trip (rumor is that they showed our Arizona Trail Video to the design team to illustrate the level of strength and performance they were looking for. They are currently in the preproduction design/testing phase of aptly named Heavy Duty Freeradical. And we get to test one of the first..."
If you are like me, the first question that pops into your head is "well shucks how is it different?" Here is a side-by-side.

"I used the bars that came with my Stoker-bar kit. After watching Nate, from Xtracycle, video on the KickBack mod I knew I needed that mod. My boys like to rock the Dummy side to side while on the stand. This mod made it so stable that their rocking is now a non-issue. It's not going to fall over.." - Anthony C.

Update on #385: Saw Loader
So the cool thing about having an Xtracycle with the PizzaLoader hack is that you are rarely stopped from an impulse purchase because of an inability to bring back the spoils of the hunt.
Today I was at the Habitat for Humanity RE-Store, where they sell used and overstocked donated building supplies to raise funds for their homebuilding projects. I have been looking for a motor to motorize a grinder that I bought for wheat; I checked with Habitat and they didn't have any. But as I was checking out, there was a table saw sitting on the incoming donations counter --- it took me a minute to realize that there might be the perfect solution --- not only would there be a motor there, but the whole thing was in a housing, with the electrical controls already set up; all I would have to do is bolt the grinder to the top and figure out some gear ratios to bring the speed down to the appropriate rpm for the grinding wheel (which comes with a groove on the handle for a belt for just this purpose).
So I asked the guy how much he wanted for this, and he looked at it and said "Well, there's no blade or fittings for a blade so -- $30" -- well I would have taken the blade out anyway, so perfect!
As I hauled it out, I realized that I hadn't even considered how to
get it home --- I just assumed it would be doable, and it was easy:
two bungee cords to the pizza loader and I was off, about two miles from home.
Now to hack together some reduction gears for the grinder!
